Siderite is a mineral composed of iron carbonate FeCO3, it is a valuable iron mineral, since it is 48% iron and contains no sulfur or phosphorus. Both magnesium and manganese commonly substitute for the iron. We usually use siderite to as a traditional mineral resources, and the siderite has been used for smelting iron and steel.

Siderite Beneficiation Process(Xuanshi Machinery)

The earliest methods for improving the grade of siderite ores consisted chiefly of processes “washing”, so that a large proportion of the sand, clay and rock could be removed from the crushed and screened siderite ore. The iron oxide content of the washed product was found to be considerably higher than that of crude ore.
As the siderite ore grade requirements became more stringent, other more complex methods were adopted to imporve the grade ores that are not amenable to simple washing operations. Such methods include gravity concentration, jigging, drying, flotation, magnetic and electrostatic concentration, etc. The iron ore industry is presently involved in the development of improved methods for utilizing low grade ores such as magnetite taconite etc. Attention is being given to these sources because in spite of their lean iron content they are susceptible to concentration into a higher quality blast furnace feed. The oxidised and leached ores while containing more iron, cannot be upgraded much above 55% iron. All these methods require fine grinding to separate the grains of silica from the grains of iron oxide. This may necessitate grinding to 200-mesh or even finer.

raw siderite of economic grade from open pit mines may contain very large block above certain sizes, and these may create handling problems by jamming hoppers and chutes and may limit heat transfer in the Blast Furnace. So, these ores are first screened when beneficiating certain complex ores, mined material may pass over a vibrating screen which removes coarse iron poor rock that is discarded.
Blending: The mining program at individual mines generally is set up to produce uniform product. Sometimes, it is desirable to blend ores of different compositions or size especially when the ores are from different sources.
